Anki, AMBOSS or MedUni Exam for your university exams
Anki schedules review of cards you make or download. AMBOSS is a medical library with a board-style question bank. MedUni Exam writes questions from your own lecture file and prints the quote and the page under each one. They do different jobs, and plenty of students use two of them, or all three.

Where Anki is the better tool
Keeping what you already learned. Anki plans each review for the point where you are about to forget, in its own words “when you’re most likely to forget the information”, and it says it “can handle decks of 100,000+ cards with no problems”. The desktop version and AnkiDroid are free, and shared decks mean a card set for a big exam may already exist. For facts you will need in two years, not two weeks, nothing on this page replaces it.
Where AMBOSS is the better tool
US board exams and the wards. AMBOSS lists “13,900+ USMLE®, COMLEX®, ABIM®, ABFM®, & ABP exam questions” tied to a library of “1400+ clinical articles peer-reviewed by our team of 50 physicians”, a Score Predictor for Step, and an app it says “even works fully offline”. It also has AI Mode Learning, which can start from “notes, slides, or other learning materials” you upload, and which, in AMBOSS’s words, “links you straight to existing AMBOSS resources like articles, practice questions, and Anki cards”. If the exam in front of you is Step 1, a COMLEX level or a shelf exam, a large bank written for it is the tool to start with.
Where MedUni Exam is the better tool
An exam your own department writes. Your lecturer sets the paper from the lectures, slides and handouts of your course, and the questions here are written from exactly that file, in the formats exams use: single best answer, clinical vignettes, multi-select, true or false and short answer. Every question carries the sentence it was written from and its page, the server checks that sentence against the page, and a second model answers blind before you see it. It works in the language your course is taught in, grades each exam A to F, tracks mastery per chapter and queues what you missed for review. How every question gets checked.
Using all three for a university exam
- Upload the lecture file for the next exam here and take a practice exam from it. The grade and the chapter breakdown show what you do not know yet.
- Read the quote and the page under every question you missed, then move the few facts you keep missing into Anki, so they stay learned after the exam.
- Where your course overlaps a board exam, such as physiology or pharmacology before Step 1, use the AMBOSS library and its question bank for that topic as the exam gets closer.
