About MedUni Exam
MedUni Exam writes practice exams in the format of real medical licensing and entrance exams, new for each student, and turns a student's own notes into checked practice questions. It also publishes free guides to national medical exams, with dates, passing scores and results read from each exam body's own documents. It is run by one person, Julian, from England.
What the site is
A student uploads a chapter, a lecture deck or scanned notes and gets practice questions written from its own sentences. Every question carries a verbatim quote and the page it sits on, and the server looks the quote up on that page before a student sees it. A question with options also goes to a second model, which answers it from the quote alone; a short answer skips that check, and a question the second model has not answered in time is marked as quote checked only.
The articles and exam pages written for one country's exam are written in that country's language from its own sources.
Who runs it
Julian is a software developer. He runs the site, answers the support inbox and decides what the checks reject. He holds no medical qualification and none is claimed anywhere on the site: what the site knows about an exam is what the body that runs it has published, quoted with its source. What a question tests comes from the file you upload: every question prints the sentence its answer rests on and the page it is on, so you can check it against your own textbook or lecture notes in seconds.
How the numbers are counted
Two kinds of number appear on the site. The counts, such as the questions verified and the rejection rates, come from the database of the site: the pages print the totals as they stood at the site's last update, the application reads them at most twice an hour, and the rejection rates are counted once a week. The exam facts, such as a pass mark, a fee or a test date, are read from the page or the PDF of the body that runs the exam, and each one prints beside the address it was read from and the day it was read.
How the articles are sourced and checked
Each number post and each article in another language was written from the primary sources it links: the exam board, the ministry or the university that publishes the figure. Every figure names its source and the day it was read, arithmetic done for the article is marked as such, and a date a page prints as still to come is held against the calendar by a test that fails once it has passed. The check date is in the byline of every article that reads a source. If a number is wrong, write to the contact page and it gets fixed.
What it is not
It is not a question bank and it has no connection to any exam board: not the NBME, the GMC, the NCSBN, NABP, the AAMC, the NBOME, the IMPP or any other body named on the exam pages. It is not a university either, and it has no connection to the Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Wien) or any other university. Nothing on the site is medical advice.
