Residency Match 2027 Timeline: Every ERAS and NRMP Date

Match Day for the 2027 Main Residency Match is Friday, March 19, 2027 at noon Eastern Time, and rank order lists must be certified by 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time on March 3, 2027, from the NRMP 2027 applicant calendar, checked on October 4, 2026. The ERAS side opened months earlier: applications could go to programs from September 2, 2026. The full timeline and the fees on both systems are below.

The Match 2027 timeline at a glance

The residency Match runs on two systems. ERAS, the AAMC service, carries your application to programs. The NRMP runs registration, rank order lists and the matching algorithm. Every date below comes from the AAMC 2027 ERAS Residency Timeline or the NRMP 2027 Main Residency Match applicant calendar, both checked on October 4, 2026. Times are Eastern Time.

ERAS 2027 season dates

The 2027 ERAS season began on June 4, 2026 at 9 a.m. ET. Residency applicants could begin submitting MyERAS applications to programs on September 2, 2026, and programs could begin reviewing those applications and MSPEs in the PDWS, the program side of ERAS, on September 23, 2026, both at 9 a.m. ET, from the AAMC 2027 ERAS Residency Timeline, checked on October 4, 2026. The season ends on May 31, 2027 at 5 p.m. ET.

For three weeks, from September 2 to September 23, applications could arrive but programs could not open them. That window is over for this cycle. ERAS stays open until May 31, 2027, so an application sent today still arrives, but programs have been reading since September 23.

International medical graduates work to the same dates, with one more: ECFMG distributed ERAS tokens to IMG residency applicants on June 24, 2026, per the AAMC 2027 ERAS timeline for IMGs. For ERAS support, the AAMC page lists ECFMG for IMGs as well as the AAMC Support Center.

ERAS fees for the 2027 season

ERAS charges USD 11 a program for the first 30 programs in a specialty and USD 30 a program from the 31st on, and the count starts again with each specialty, from the AAMC page Fees for the 2027 ERAS Season, checked on October 4, 2026. The AAMC calls this a new, simplified residency fee structure, beginning with the 2027 season.

The same page says ERAS gives no refunds for any reason, including for applications sent to programs that do not participate. It lists no USMLE transcript fee. The USMLE transcripts page says to follow the application owner's instructions when sending USMLE transcripts through ERAS.

NRMP 2027 calendar: registration, ranking and the rank list deadline

NRMP registration for the 2027 Main Residency Match opened on September 15, 2026 at noon ET, and standard registration runs until 11:59 p.m. ET on January 29, 2027, from the NRMP applicant calendar, checked on October 4, 2026. The calendar says you must register with both the NRMP and the application service the program requires.

Ranking opens on February 1, 2027 at noon ET in the R3 system, when each program's number of positions is final. The rank order list certification deadline is 9:00 p.m. ET on March 3, 2027. Five deadlines share that moment:

certifying your rank order list;
late registration for the Match and SOAP;
withdrawing from the Match;
medical schools verifying graduation credentials;
IMG applicants meeting ECFMG verification requirements.

NRMP Match fees for applicants

The NRMP standard registration fee for the Main Residency Match is USD 85. It covers up to 20 unique program codes on the primary rank order list, and up to 20 on all supplemental lists combined, from the NRMP Match Fees page, checked on October 4, 2026.

All Match fees are non-refundable and are paid in U.S. dollars by credit card through R3. Extra rank and list length fees are due when you certify, and a certified list cannot be edited later to remove them. Match Week and SOAP 2027

Match Week starts on Monday, March 15, 2027 at 10 a.m. ET. Applicants learn by email and in R3 whether they matched, and the Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP) opens at the same time for eligible unmatched and partially matched applicants, from the NRMP applicant calendar, checked on October 4, 2026. The Match results themselves are released on Match Day, Friday, March 19, 2027, at noon ET.

When Step 2 CK scores need to be in

Neither the AAMC 2027 ERAS Residency Timeline nor the NRMP 2027 applicant calendar sets a date for Step 2 CK scores. Neither page mentions Step 2 CK at all, read on October 4, 2026. A Step 2 CK cutoff date therefore comes from the program, not from ERAS or the NRMP, so check each program's own requirements.

What the USMLE publishes is the wait. USMLE results are typically available two to four weeks after the test date, and the USMLE says to allow at least eight weeks when choosing a test date, on its scoring and score reporting page, checked on October 4, 2026.

Eight weeks before the March 3, 2027 rank list deadline is January 6, 2027, this article's count. That is only the last test date the USMLE allowance fits before the deadline. It says nothing about when a given program wants to see the score. The format and content of the exam are on the Step 2 CK page.

Do I need Step 2 CK scores before I apply to residency?

Not by any ERAS or NRMP rule: neither the AAMC 2027 ERAS Residency Timeline nor the NRMP 2027 applicant calendar sets a Step 2 CK date, both read on October 4, 2026. Check each program's own requirements. The USMLE says results typically arrive two to four weeks after the test date and advises allowing at least eight weeks.
