The medical school AKT is 100 percent single best answer with five options and no penalty for wrong answers. A question generated from your own teaching is structurally the same object as a real item, which is rare among these exams.

## UKMLA AKT exam dates, fee, pass mark and pass rate

UKMLA AKT fee: nothing for a UK medical student, because the MLA is part of the degree. UKMLA AKT exam dates: set by each medical school, with no national date list published. The pass mark ran from 115 out of 200 to 117 out of 200 across the exams of September 2024 to August 2025, which is 57.5 to 58.5 percent of the 200 items by this page's arithmetic, and the pass rate over that period was 98.3 percent of 10,437 students at 40 medical schools, with the full tables in the blog post on the UKMLA AKT pass mark.

## The one exam on this list whose format a generator matches exactly

The 2026 student handbook is unusually plain about the format: two papers of 100 items taken on sequential days, all of them single best answer with five options, no penalty for wrong answers, two hours a paper. There is no image dependency to work around and no proprietary item type. A single best answer item written from your own teaching material has the same shape as the exam you will take.

What no generator can promise is coverage. The MLA content map has six domains, and the two that carry the exam, patient presentations and conditions, are wider than any set of lecture notes. The map is also live: it was republished in October 2025 after a content review and changed again in September 2026. Practice from your own file is practice on your own file.

## One question, as it arrives

A 17-year-old male presents to the GP with a 2-day history of fever, headache, and neck stiffness. He recently moved into a university dormitory. What is the most likely diagnosis?

1. **A.** Encephalitis
2. **B.** Meningococcal meningitis correct answer
3. **C.** Pneumonia
4. **D.** Viral meningitis
5. **E.** Influenza

PAGE 1"Invasive meningococcal disease most commonly presents as meningitis and/or septicaemia."

double-checked

Written on September 15, 2026 on the free lane, job 242, question 13578, from [Meningococcal: the green book, chapter 22](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/meningococcal-the-green-book-chapter-22) (UK Health Security Agency), page 1, published under the [Open Government Licence v3.0](https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/doc/open-government-licence/version/3/). The quote is the line the check found on that page, and a second model from a different family picked the same answer from the quote alone. Nothing here was edited by hand.

**54 percent of the questions drafted since counting began on September 14, 2026 failed a check and never reached a student.** Counted from this site's own database, as of September 24, 2026, refreshed twice an hour. A question fails when its quote is not on the page it cites, when a second model picks a different answer, when it breaks a writing rule or when it repeats one already written. ## A practice recipe for UKMLA applied knowledge test

Ask for 50 questions from two modules and set a 60 minute timer, which is the pace of a 100 item paper in two hours.

Paste this into the extra instructions box on the generate form, or let the button carry it there:

Write single best answer items with exactly five options and no penalty for wrong answers. Each stem is a short patient presentation ending in one question: the most likely diagnosis, the first investigation, or the immediate management step. Use the presentation and the condition as the subject, not the name of a study. Keep the reading level plain enough to answer in 70 seconds.

[Use this recipe in the generate form](https://meduniexam.com/#/?recipe=ukmla)

The extra instructions box overrides the general guidance the model is given, so the wording above is followed on every question in the set.

## What this cannot do

- This is not an MLA item bank and it has no connection to the GMC or the Medical Schools Council. It writes items in that format from the file you upload.
- Coverage of the six domain content map cannot be promised. Personal notes rarely cover the professional knowledge domain or the clinical and professional capabilities domain at all.
- The map's three underpinning themes, readiness for safe practice, managing uncertainty and delivering holistic person centered care, are hard to write from factual notes and will be thin in a generated set.
- The content map is revised. Questions reflect the edition of the material you uploaded, which is why every item prints its page.

## Format facts, and where each one comes from

- The AKT is two 100 item papers taken on sequential days. The questions are all single best answer with five options, wrong answers are not penalized, and the standard time for each paper is two hours.Source: [https://www.medschools.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/MS-AKT-Student-Handbook-2026.pdf](https://www.medschools.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/MS-AKT-Student-Handbook-2026.pdf)

## What it costs in UKMLA applied knowledge test units

With a free account the allowance is 300 verified questions a month, which in this exam's units is 3 runs of one 100 item paper, or more than both AKT papers, 200 items across two days, every month, at no cost. A guest workspace with no account gets 60 questions a month, which is 1 such run.

## Questions students ask

### Is the AKT the same as PLAB 1?

They are both applied knowledge tests compliant with the MLA. UK students take the medical school AKT; international medical graduates take PLAB 1, which is 180 items in three hours. There is a page for PLAB 1 as well.

### What should I upload?

Your own year's teaching: the case based learning packs, the lecture handouts and the condition summaries your school issued. Those are the pages your school will examine you against.

### Does it write items with the no-penalty scoring in mind?

Item writing does not change with the scoring scheme, but the recipe on this page keeps stems short and single answer, which is the format the AKT uses.

### Can it tell me my likely score?

No. There is no equating and no national cohort here. You get a grade on the set you generated, per chapter mastery and a review queue for what you missed.
